Genesis 1:3-13 ESV

(3) And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. (4) And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. (5) God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. (6) And God said, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters." (7) And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. (8) And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day. (9) And God said, "Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear." And it was so. (10) God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. (11) And God said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth." And it was so. (12) The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. (13) And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.

[00:00] All right so today we're gonna be in Genesis 1 again my dad last week did
[00:06] Genesis 1 versus 1 and 2 and this week we're gonna be in verses 3 through 13
[00:13] 3 through 13 much rather this than just two verses no thanks so I'm not gonna
[00:23] lie when I was reading this passage over my initial reaction was well I guess
[00:28] we're all going back to school because this bad boy is about to be a lecture
[00:33] because that's how it feels when we read it you'll see why but then I came across
[00:39] this quote by Charles Virgin and when he was speaking about Genesis he said we
[00:45] shall leave all discussion as to the creation of the world to those learned
[00:49] divine to have paid their special attention to that subject and to those
[00:53] geologists who know or at any rate think they know a very great deal about it it
[00:59] is very interesting subject but this is not the time for its consideration our
[01:03] business here is moral and spiritual rather than scientific so great quote
[01:07] but I hated it because I mean I actually had to do some work because for the
[01:13] majority Genesis it's a lot of you know research and see what people are saying
[01:16] and scholars and all that but he's right it is a moral and spiritual matter but
[01:23] today we are gonna do a little bit of both so just so you're aware of where
[01:27] we are going we're going to we're gonna break down the verses so there we're
[01:32] gonna be talking about the first three days of creation day one day two and
[01:35] day three we're gonna break down those verses what they mean maybe the debates
[01:41] around them a little bit but then at the end we're gonna talk about okay well
[01:46] what does the creation story need for us so the first half is gonna be hey what
[01:51] the heck does it mean to separate light and dark and then the end is gonna be
[01:55] hey what does this reveal about God and I will give you a warning though we will
[02:00] be spending most of our time in verses three through five because this sets up
[02:04] the rest of the creation narrative and I tell you this because I know how sermon
[02:09] math works in everyone's minds when someone or a preacher spends 30 minutes
[02:16] on the very first point you think oh whoa how long is point two and three and God
[02:22] forbid they say point four you might as well just pass away in your seat cuz
[02:27] we're gonna be here all day but I promise you that is not the case the
[02:31] first one's gonna take some time and then after that easy peasy all right so
[02:36] let's read our passage first Genesis actually this is kind of the hardest
[02:43] book to get to that first page now all right so Genesis 1 3 through 13 and I
[02:51] just realized all my notes are in the ESV but I'm not even using an ESV right
[02:56] now that's right they'll be close enough the God said let there be light and
[03:01] there was light God saw that the light was good and God separated the light in
[03:06] the darkness God called the light day and he called the darkness night evening
[03:11] came and then morning the first day then God said let there be an expanse between
[03:16] the water separating water from water so God made the expanse and separated the
[03:20] water on the expanse from the water above the expanse and it was so guy
[03:25] called the expanse sky evening came and then morning the second day then God
[03:30] said let the water under the sky be gathered into one place let the dry land
[03:34] appear and it was so God called the land the dry land earth and he called the
[03:39] gathering of the water seas and God saw that it was good and then God said let
[03:44] the earth produce vegetation seed-bearing plants and fruit trees on
[03:48] earth bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds and it was so
[03:51] the earth produced vegetation seed-bearing plants according to its
[03:55] kind and the trees bearing fruit with seed and according to its kind and God
[04:00] saw that it was good evening came and then morning the third day so as we see
[04:06] right up the gate the first day is this seven-fold pattern that recurs each of
[04:10] the six creation days with slight variation but basically the same pattern
[04:15] we see throughout that whole entire passage and really the rest of the
[04:19] creation story and when you are reading Scripture it's important to recognize
[04:23] such patterns because it is not by accident and is usually usually on
[04:28] purpose so you know you know repetition words structures of sentences those are
[04:32] it's not just like on accident Gordon when I'm says this in this commentary
[04:38] number one about this structure says number one you have an announcement God
[04:43] said then to a command let there be in this case let there be light three
[04:49] fulfillment it was so for the execution of that command light in this case five
[04:56] the approval of what has been made God saw that it was good number six and then
[05:01] there was often a subsequent word a furthering fashion of creation or often
[05:06] naming of the creation and then finally number seven having morning evening the
[05:10] day is numbered so a pretty much a structure of seven different it just
[05:14] runs through every day and this is obviously a stylized piece of literature
[05:18] people people will often point out well Genesis is in a science textbook therefore
[05:25] it shouldn't be taken seriously as an origin story and of course it's not a
[05:29] science textbook there were no science textbooks in Genesis but but the
[05:36] language we can see is not meant to be technical and detailed but rather
[05:40] selective and observational and it's you know this literary prose but literary
[05:48] prose and refinement is not the opposite of true so just because it's not super
[05:52] detailed doesn't mean it's not true and this is this is to be read as a
[05:56] historical narrative even if it is stylized we are not in the realm of make
[06:02] believe because as you notice there's no oceans dragons elves
[06:08] dwarves the minds of Moria none of that is in here or as how from Megamind says
[06:15] there is no Easter boundary there is no tooth fairy and there is no such thing
[06:18] as the Queen of England none of this stuff is in here and God doesn't create
[06:23] a man in chapter two give him a stick and say you're a wizard Adam doesn't do
[06:27] any of that and if you were to read some of the other ancient near or the ancient
[06:32] Near Eastern myths and we'll talk about a lot of these parallels most likely come
[06:36] when we get to know up because a lot of the other creation myths have like a
[06:40] flood type story the other myths are they're much more I guess magical and I
[06:49] don't know how to describe it mythical as you would imagine so a lot of people
[06:54] know Greek mythology at least and the Near Eastern myths are similar you have
[06:58] a bunch of gods and goddesses vying for power killing one another sleeping with
[07:02] their creation and they're all sorts of just messed up and the Genesis story is
[07:09] not like that because for us while we have a patterned prose is it is a
[07:13] historical account given by the Holy Spirit to Moses of creation that's what
[07:18] we have here and we find often that in the Old Testament and in the New
[07:22] Testament a writer is hearkening back to the creation account Jesus himself
[07:27] assumes the historical accuracy of Adam and Eve and even quotes them in Genesis
[07:31] 2 saying did not the Creator say in Matthew 19 male and female he created
[07:36] them so even Jesus hearkens back to the Genesis account and it's historical
[07:41] accuracy and then in another case in the Old Testament we see in Psalms 33 David
[07:48] literally has a whole I think it's 33 it is uh it's really the whole it's about a
[07:52] God our Creator and all the creation that he he did in in Genesis and we're
[07:59] gonna and there's other ones in the New Testament and we're gonna talk about them
[08:01] in a little bit but there are callbacks to creation which shows that all
[08:06] throughout history it is seen as a historical text so one of the many points
[08:13] here in Genesis 1 is that creation comes from the voice of God creation comes by
[08:18] the voice of God ten times in this chapter it is recorded God said ten
[08:25] times God said starting in verse 3 on day 1 God said let there be this let
[08:30] there be that and it was so creation comes by the voice of God in creation is
[08:37] a trinitarian act it's a trinitarian act as unlike they know God the Father Son
[08:43] and the Holy Spirit we see in verse we saw him last week in verse 2 the spirit
[08:47] of God hovering over the water so you saw the spirit of God hovering over the
[08:50] waters and now we see the expression of the second person of the Trinity and
[08:54] Jesus you say where I don't see the name Jesus written anywhere but you have the
[08:59] Word and in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word
[09:04] was God all things were created by the means of God's Word his logos his speech
[09:09] and Jesus is the Word of God so if Jesus is the Word of God and it is the Word of
[09:16] God that created creation then Jesus was here at the beginning this is the third
[09:19] this is creation is a trinitarian act and we're gonna talk more about that
[09:24] trinitarian act when we get to what he made have an eve he says let us make man
[09:29] our own image but we'll get more to that when we get to that point I realized
[09:33] this is kind of hard because we're gonna like for example we're gonna talk about
[09:40] light and day well light and day is two weeks from now Adam and Eve kind of gets
[09:43] you know the black interest is there later on but we'll let everyone else
[09:47] deal with those all those hard questions so God said let there be light and there
[09:53] was light and God saw that the light was good and God separated the light from
[09:58] the darkness John Bunyan who wrote the pilgrims progress said this no doubt
[10:05] darkness and light here began their great quarrel for what communion hath
[10:10] light with darkness I love that so from the very beginning we see a conflict
[10:18] between light and darkness and if you are a Christian here this morning you
[10:22] have had a miracle rot in your life every bit as powerful as this miracle of
[10:28] creation right here so one of those instances of the New Testament harking
[10:32] back to the historicity of Genesis is Paul and second Corinthians 4 second
[10:37] Corinthians 4/6 he says this for God's who said let light shine out of the
[10:43] darkness as shown in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory
[10:46] of God in the face of Jesus Christ in other words if you're a
[10:51] Christian that's what God did in your life when he said let there be light he
[10:55] said let he also let there be light in your heart at some point God spoke into
[10:59] your life and when there was no when there was no faith he gave you faith
[11:03] when there was darkness darkness he gave you light when there was death he gave
[11:07] you life he said into your heart let there be light and there was light and
[11:11] it was good so now notice in verse 4 God separates the light from the darkness
[11:18] this is a key theme in the chapter of this you know this separation five times
[11:24] in this first chapter we read of the separation of God's creative creative
[11:30] activity and here he's separating day from night and you can call these acts
[11:36] of separation of ordered design is essentially what it is you can try to
[11:40] picture this like big ball of metamorphic madness just as big gook of
[11:47] something and God is pulling it apart and separating it and making it useful
[11:52] and wonderful in different areas he is separating this mass of chaos into
[11:58] purposeful order he is separating the mass of chaos into purposeful order so
[12:05] I don't know I found it interesting how he in the beginning he's separating
[12:08] these things and it is good you think of our sin a lot of times it is do our do
[12:12] our sin that the separation then becomes bad you know we're separated from God
[12:16] a lot of times get separated from our spouses or in beginning I said it is
[12:20] true actually I don't even separated they weren't before sin and then sin they
[12:25] were separated so in in the sense the very beginning in the garden separation
[12:30] is good and God uses it for order if our sin has made separation bad so God
[12:35] creates light separates it from darkness clears that is good and as you will see
[12:40] through all throughout the creation story that he always ends with calling
[12:44] good and you know the climax of his creation he says is very good in verse
[12:50] how in verse five he then calls the light day now we have to say something
[12:56] about this because the word day has no small amount of controversy I'm not gonna
[13:03] spend a ton of time on it I'm not gonna go to all the science you can read all
[13:07] the books you want they're all gonna disagree at some point because there's a
[13:12] long-standing controversy that probably goes back 150 years at least maybe a
[13:16] little bit more and what what does it mean by day let he called the the light
[13:23] day is it a 24-hour day is it a thousand years is that a day well the Hebrew word
[13:31] is young W Y O M and it normally it normally means a regular 24-hour day and
[13:38] I think there's are good reasons to take yum here referring to as a 24 normal hour
[13:45] day 24-hour day a few quick reasons on why I think it's a 24-hour day and not a
[13:50] you know ages or thousands of years per so in case you aren't familiar there's a
[13:55] comment there's an official name for it gap theory maybe I forget they pretty
[14:01] much say every day is like a thousand years like he separated light and
[14:04] darkness okay that was a thousand years and then he separated the waters okay
[14:07] that another thousand years and that came up and we'll get to this in my fourth
[14:12] reason why I think that's not the case but that came up relatively in recent
[14:18] history compared to all history so but the first reason why I think it's a 24-
[14:21] hour day is first the mentioning of morning and evening certainly we are put
[14:28] into the realm of cycles of darkness and light this suggests very strongly that
[14:34] we were talking about a normal day a day that has darkness a day that has light
[14:40] morning and evening and this fits into the matter-of-fact pattern of Genesis
[14:45] there's light there's day morning evening dark secondly whenever you have
[14:50] the Old Testament we're having the Old Testament numbered days it always refers
[14:55] to a regular day so anytime you only use in the Old Testament it is used as a
[14:59] regular 24-hour day too so when you say well that's the first day and that's the
[15:04] second day that is now a metamorphical day like a thousand years but rather a
[15:08] reference to a normal day in other words and no place in the Old Testament does
[15:14] a day equivalent a long time a period only in Genesis chapter 1 do sometimes
[15:19] do people make that deduction that it's longer than a 24-hour day now they might
[15:25] have better reasons for why that is I didn't read too much into the gap theory
[15:28] of why they think that but Yom is typically always almost always used in
[15:35] 24-hour day so why in the rest of the Old Testament it's used that way so why in
[15:39] just one we don't take it that way or some people don't take it that way I'm
[15:42] not sure third reason why I think it's a 24-hour day the seven days of the week
[15:46] are a pattern of our seven days of the week we don't have seven ages we have
[15:51] literal seven days of the week and there's this pattern ingrained in the
[15:55] Bible of having one day of rest of having a day on day seven of rest and
[16:01] worship and it was the same with creation so these literal 24-hour days
[16:05] that we inhabit in our week are a pattern of regular 24-hour days so these
[16:12] first three I feel like are just more like just logical sense it just makes
[16:14] sense it fits in with our daily lives we've seen it throughout our daily lives
[16:18] that matches with creation but the fourth reason is more of a personal
[16:20] preference and that's more of a the earliest church fathers father followed
[16:25] the 24-hour day they thought it was a 24-hour day and I'm in I'm in the camp
[16:31] of you know it wasn't like the 18th century 17th century where it was you
[16:36] know that thousand-year gap happened and I'm under the thought of I mean to
[16:42] think I know better than some of the early church fathers in the second third
[16:46] fourth fifth century I don't know I think it'd be pretty arrogant to think you know
[16:50] more than them there's a quote by someone who says like yes we have the
[16:54] Holy Spirit and I don't know who says this quote but they said when you come
[16:58] to Scripture to think you're the first person to have the Holy Spirit reveal
[17:01] something to you you check yourself before you wreck yourself essentially
[17:06] what they were saying so the fourth reason for me is the strongest reason I
[17:11] mean I think the first three it just makes sense but the fourth reason is you
[17:15] know for most of church history has been seen as 24-hour day so why in 1817
[17:19] century has this become a debate so so that being said I think it's a normal
[17:25] day and you could debate that I don't think it's a central gospel issue I
[17:29] think you'll have to reconcile some things with that if you don't think it's
[17:31] 24-hour day but regardless have your opinion and - 24-hour day and I will
[17:39] totally wreck you with fascinating no just kidding I'm just kidding so moving on to
[17:44] day two and as I said before these will be these will be quick but verse six God
[17:50] said let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters and let it separate
[17:54] the waters from the waters and God made the expanse and separated the waters
[17:59] that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse and
[18:03] it was so and God called the expanse heaven and there was evening and there
[18:06] was morning the second day so you might have noticed there's no appreciation
[18:10] formula here on the second day doesn't like God says it was good not because it
[18:15] wasn't good but perhaps because the waters aren't fully separated until the
[18:22] next day so the waters aren't fully separated till the next day so perhaps
[18:26] it's a two-day execution for the waters to be separated so then he because it's
[18:30] good on the third day that's a thought because it can't be that it's not good
[18:35] because he doesn't do things that aren't good so that's the next logical reason
[18:40] now this word in verse six expanse I don't know also is a need of discussion
[18:47] because what the heck does that mean and I'm not gonna lie this one is a little
[18:52] bit tougher for me to understand the day you know I get it and I should go back
[18:56] to say with the day the light and day it's day on day for creation is when the
[19:02] Sun and moon are created how is their day Chris is gonna be talking about that
[19:07] short little synopsis some people say you know it's like in revelation just the
[19:13] glory of God with the life that's what's shown upon the earth another thought is
[19:17] no the moon and Sun were created on this second day they were Nate but it wasn't
[19:23] till the fourth day where they were separated so you know there's two
[19:27] thoughts but we'll let Chris dive into that in two weeks so but what does this
[19:31] expanse what the heck does this mean the whole day - is kind of confusing and I'm
[19:40] I think Kevin Deon breaks this down really well so anything I basically say
[19:44] on day two just Kevin Deon you don't like it just email him so what is this
[19:51] expanse the sky or firmament as anyone ever heard of firmament before okay okay
[19:58] I thought so I was like this sounds this sounds like some of my dad grew up with
[20:02] to explain Genesis on like the felt board or something so some people take
[20:16] this to be almost a technical sort of canopy or a glass dome that covered the
[20:22] earth separating the water so you have the earth you have like the sky and you
[20:26] have they did just this canopy or this dome holding a big thing of water that's
[20:33] kind of how people have seen it but Kevin Deon says we should take more of an
[20:39] ordinary observational sense the idea that the firmament is a ceiling a vault
[20:43] a dome seems overly mechanical overly precise and I kind of agree with him on
[20:49] this and I think verse 20 gives us an indication of how we're supposed to
[20:54] understand the expanse God said let the water swarm with swarms of living
[20:58] creatures and let the birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the
[21:03] heavens so where do we see birds flying and some glass doll was the last time I
[21:10] checked maybe in that Jim Carrey movie that he's in a little bulb and that's
[21:14] probably the only time ever seen birds in a doll but rather we see birds in the
[21:18] sky so I think that the expanse which God calls heaven which can also be
[21:23] translated as sky it's the same word is a way of saying that there were waters
[21:28] that have been separated so now that there's these waters on the earth and
[21:32] lakes and rivers and oceans there are these waters up in the heavens what are
[21:38] those well the rain that comes down from the clouds and separating those those
[21:42] rain coming from the clouds and water on earth is the expanse the heavens the
[21:47] sky or the birds fly so that makes sense so the expand essentially is water in
[21:53] the clouds you have the rain and you have the water on the earth and then the
[21:57] expanse in between is the sky that's how Kevin young explains it I think it makes
[22:02] sense in the observational sense of things because the other factor is when
[22:06] you go into the firmament in this canopy and then it gets released on the flood
[22:10] and that's how there was so much flooding which no I can I guess I can
[22:12] see that but I like this Kevin young we talked about this observational view so
[22:19] day three and God said that the waters under the heavens be gathered together
[22:24] in one place and let the dry land appear and it was so and God called the dry land
[22:31] earth and the waters that were gathered together he called the seas and God saw
[22:34] that it was good and God said let the earth sprout vegetation plants yielding
[22:39] seed and fruit trees bearing fruit in which there's is their seed and a court
[22:43] each according to its kind on earth and it was so and the earth brought forth
[22:47] vegetation plants yielding seed according to their own kinds and trees
[22:50] bearing fruit and which is their seed each according to its kind and God saw
[22:55] that it was good and there was evening and morning the third day so God has
[23:00] given to created living things and here he's dealing with plants the ability to
[23:07] reproduce to their own kind and we're gonna see that with animals I'm gonna
[23:09] see that with humans and again that might not sound very interesting to you
[23:13] but in light of the other creation stories of the the near ancient east
[23:17] this is very different because there is no magic God just created and the plants
[23:22] they just were and these plants and these trees or later on animals and
[23:28] humans they weren't something or some sort of deity to be worshiped which is
[23:32] extremely popular in the religions at the time I mean we'll get to it oh no no
[23:36] we won't get to it that's Exodus Egypt you look at Egypt they worship the Sun
[23:41] but around the same time period they worship the Sun the moon cows which I
[23:47] recently went to the oak in Raleigh I could kind of see it but here the
[23:55] creative things are living things and they are given creative power by the
[24:00] Creator so they've been given creative power to the Creator but their power is
[24:05] to bring glory back to God is to multiply and reproduce and this type of
[24:11] creation is meant to be worshiped or is not meant to be worshiped but to point
[24:15] back to the mighty Creator who is worthy of the worship so that brings us and
[24:20] brings us into the explanation of you know of our Genesis 101 there's a few as
[24:30] you can see there's a few issues or not issues but you know discussion points or
[24:34] what does it mean because the writing is as I already saw the prose is weird and
[24:40] yeah it could be difficult but as difficult as it is and as much as you
[24:46] know most people don't like sitting through a class there are themes there
[24:50] are themes throughout the creation that we can learn about God and the first
[24:55] theme is that through creation we know that God speaks through creation we know
[25:01] that God speaks as I already said ten times in this chapter we have it
[25:06] recorded God said and and it starts with verse 3 on day one God said he spoke
[25:14] creation into being and it is by his spoken word that our hearts have been
[25:19] transformed in the beginning God said let there be light and it was good and
[25:24] then on Calvary on a tree beaten and bruised he spoke again and said it is
[25:30] finished and just as he separated the light from the darkness so in that
[25:35] moment that he separate our sin as far as East is from the West he is a God who
[25:40] speaks and who has and whose word has the power not only to create but to save
[25:47] will you listen will you listen to the wonderful words of our Savior his words
[25:53] are life-giving literally he brought life into this world but he also brings
[25:59] life to our hearts his yoke is easy his burn is light will you have the ears to
[26:05] hear what he is saying so our first in part so our first thing that we saw is
[26:09] through creation we know that God speaks our second theme is through creation we
[26:14] know that God sees we know that God sees after God speaks and creates it's
[26:21] always followed up by appreciation let there be light and he saw that it was
[26:26] good let the waters gather and he saw that it was good let the earth sprout
[26:30] forward and he saw that it was good Christian you who are downtrodden you
[26:38] who are discouraged you who are weak you who are in the throes of melancholy
[26:43] depression anger sadness you who are feeling weighed down by the way of the
[26:48] world hopefully this is a comfort to you that the Heavenly Father sees you
[26:55] and has compassion on you just as Hagar who we're gonna talk about him a few
[27:01] months was cast away into the desert the Lord looked upon her and saw her with
[27:07] compassion and blesses her and she declares she says you are a God who
[27:12] sees you are a God who sees or the prodigal son who was yet a great way off
[27:19] the father saw him and even so our father our Heavenly Father sees us and
[27:24] just as it was enough for the prodigal son to be seen by the father so it is
[27:29] enough for us even the great King David cried out in his distress and said I am
[27:34] poor and needy but the Lord takes thought of me I am poor and needy but the Lord
[27:41] takes thought of me what an incredible truth that the king of kings thinks of
[27:46] us and sees us all of our ways are known to him all of our ways which might scare
[27:52] you but he does not shudder he does not turn away but welcomes us within a brace
[27:57] as one who is longed to see their child Oh believer the Lord sees the work of
[28:05] grace that is in you whether it is in its infant stages or whether it's been
[28:09] matured over many years he does not turn his eye away from the light of which he
[28:14] is kindled so number one through creation we know that God speaks through
[28:20] creation we know that God sees and through creation we see the goodness of
[28:25] God through creation we see the goodness of God this creation this physical
[28:30] matter is a good thing creation is a good thing whether it's in the mountains
[28:35] the lakes the streams the ocean the grass the trees the garden the children
[28:40] the food we are meant to delight take delight in the beauty of his creations
[28:46] and we'll talk more about this in chapter 2 when we get to Adam and Eve about what
[28:53] it means to be a part of creation and joy and creation and cultivate creation
[28:57] but GK Chesterton has a famous book or I guess it was a series of essays I don't
[29:02] really know but it's called Orthodoxy and he has this really famous paragraph
[29:10] talking about how perhaps maybe we are the ones who have grown old and it's the
[29:16] children who have the wonder to delight in monotony you know your kid who will
[29:22] just throw the ball over and over and over or a little car on the ground just
[29:27] back and forth back and forth back and forth and say again do it again do it
[29:31] again they don't grow tired of the monotony even even yesterday I was at
[29:35] my parents house with Ridley and she kept saying chase daddy chase daddy and
[29:39] it was like I don't like this I had to stop but she wouldn't just kept doing it
[29:44] kept doing it kept doing it she does not tire of the monotony and Chesterton says
[29:49] maybe God and his creation is like that maybe maybe we are the ones that have
[29:54] grown old and every night the moon rises and God says do it again every morning
[29:59] the Sun rises and God says do it again he never gets tired of doing it he loves
[30:06] beholding the beauty and some of us our eyes have grown dim to the wonder to the
[30:13] enchantment to the enchantment to the beauty to the goodness of all that God
[30:18] has given us I know I could be that way you know I go to work hit traffic on the
[30:23] way home my truck's air might not be running like this oop a piece of crap but
[30:30] then I get home and I see my daughter's face and she says daddy and she comes
[30:35] and gives me a hug I realize how blessed I am and how in just the smallest things
[30:40] of her smile that God is good so my prayer is that we will delight in his
[30:45] creation and see that he is good and yes we see his goodness in the sunrise on
[30:52] the beach or the sunset in the mountains or when we see his goodness when we
[30:56] stare into an empty starry night and see just a vast amount of stars but do we
[31:01] see his goodness in the mundane or in the small things he is the God of every
[31:07] grace and all good things flow through him whether it's the dew in the morning
[31:12] the singing of the birds or as I already said the smile on a loved one's face all
[31:18] of this all things in creation point to the goodness of God and he is meant to
[31:23] be loved and cherished forever so cherish him cherish his creation and
[31:29] worship him because of it let's try generally father who is this king of
[31:40] glory that would think upon us every time I read this creation story I just
[31:45] think of the words of David who understood that a God who speaks the
[31:50] earth into existence cares and sees us you are a wonderful father
[31:59] Lord thank you for your creation story I'm thankful it's not just some random
[32:09] myth of just fables and stories but it is true historical and that we even
[32:17] throughout creation we see your character Lord I pray that as we go
[32:23] throughout our week where we would be in all of you and all that you have done
[32:26] and Lord the light that you've shown the beginning of creation is also in us
[32:33] Lord you know that Ridley loves that that song this little light of mine but
[32:37] it is so true you have put that light inside us and I pray that we would let
[32:42] us shine Lord we love you we praise you I'm gonna give you all the glory I pray
[32:49] else in your name amen
